San Mao is a cartoon character created by Zhang Leping in 1935. Zhang Leping used a single character to tell a long story, creating the image of a street child in Shanghai at that time. He had a bleak life and suffered all kinds of humiliation. He was so poor that there were only three hairs left, so everyone called him Sanmao. This work is hailed as a "literary masterpiece without words".
